Introduce You Some Doc. (FAQ)
It is found  the current documents in MF is really hard to be translated, for there are some special words only used by itdisapprove.  I tried a piece, with my brain cells dying at half.  Please forgive me if it is killing your eyes retina cells.big smile

FAQ-常见问题、习惯做法的解释和新人特别提醒
(由相约同行的贴试译)
Explanation for General Questions and Established Customs by Usage in MF

(Please note the translation does not strictly follow up the origin for the sake of conciseness or my understanding.)

MF‘s principles  are:” Safe outdoors、Environment-protection、Self-help”.  To maintain these principles,  MF has been developping some concrete regulations.  For those behaviors without or unsuitable for regulating, there are also some established answers or customs fixed through usage and practice.  Hereby we will use FAQ to have an explanation on those questions raised often in daily activities.  The contents will be updated according to new questions.

@ I am a new comer( or say: Novice): Why am I discriminated and hard to be enrolled in MF activities?

Old is derived from New.  They are two principles of relativities. Actually, as we know, many new comers have much matured experiences before registering here. Therefore, there is not a base for so called discrimination.  The main concern of the New is people are not familiar with you, which certainly will influence or risk the turn-out of an activity in aspects of safety or merriness. To make you an easier access to an enrollment or to melt with a group, you shall get yourself well ready on the below points:
新驴对新驴的几点建议
1) Prepare basic outdoors equipment or gear. The equipment(gear) includes: Footware, Backpack, Whistle, Compass, a knife and so on.
2) Do not hurry in applying for an activity.  You shall view articles posted in MF in order to know better the general outdoors knowledge、other person’s experiences and conclusion, etc.
3) Choose standard or leisureful routes whose application will usually not refused by organizer.  You may have a preliminary learn on outdoor activities held in MF.  Please note even though you have ever climbed Snow Mountain,  it is possible and reasonable for an organizer to refuse you because he has never been with you before and does not know you.
4) Please apply for an activity by standard application form.  In general, standard plus route requires everybody to provide true name/ emergency phone number which will facilitate the aid if any accidents happen, as the outdoor activity has risks. Organizer has the obligation to keep your private data secret.
5) Please take it easy if you are refused.  Don’t reproach organizer.  There should be some reasonable factors for him to refuse you.  You may in first step climb nearby hills or try other organizer’s easier one.
6) Please be active  in any activity: try best not to be late.  Take initiative to introduce yourself to organizer or team members. Be independent, learn to self-help, but ask for help if you really need it especially when you have exhausted out or been seriously hurt.
7) Follow up the arrangement.  You can propose, but obey absolutely the decision made finally by organizer, even though you believe you are right.  If not, the result may turn out that you will not join this organizer’s activities anymore. Surely no one will stop you from choosing the later.

Or you can spirit up to self-help: search and gather the related information or useful articles posted, communicate、 consult and exchange ideas with experienced persons, then make up your own suitable trail or plan.  While being back, please remember to make others share your experiences.  Finally, you will find it easy to grow from New to Old.

@What do we mean by "not enough Credit Accumulation"?

MF does not support new comers who have not enough credit accumulation to initiate activities.  Different from dummy community in other websites, MF has requests in many aspects on “one’s credit accumulation”.  It includes not only individual’s talent or experience but also the subjective evaluation on your capabilities, experiences educed by those who know you.  Even though you are very experienced before registering in MF, you still have not enough credit accumulation if  people can  not know you through your activity records, travel notes or other effective sources. The process to accumulate Credits is a process through which you are gradually understanding MF and understand what you are doing here.

@Is there any contradiction between “self-help” and “group or team spirit”?

“Self-help” is a request for yourself and team spirit is your attitude for treating others in a team.  One is self-discipline , the other is favoring a group.  They are compensable but not conflicting.  While facing with accidents or emergencies, self-help is extended favoringly to “help each other”  by offering your capable hands to others in need.

@ Can I rent a car and enroll persons here for a trip to Yangshuo?

No, you can’t.  Commercialized tourism is much prevailing in Yangshuo and similar places, therefore have already caused a lot of problems and entanglements in MF.  MF is not resourceful or  can not manage to control the commercial behaviors which shall have to be regulated by Law.  We stress again that your ID will be banned if it is used to get customers through secret message box or post publicly in MF.  As for the travelling demands of Yangshuo and similar places, MF will accredit qualified attested team leaders to organize on the name of “Public Benefit Trail”.

@Is cross-website call-up or enrollment permitted in MF?

MF facilitates many regulations or established customs by usage to guarantee the safety and non-commercialization of activities, gets to know or trust the accredited team leaders through a mechanism system of elimination through selection. Cross-website call-up or enrollment will not be easy to be controlled by our principles due to the lack of good understanding of other websites, which will lead to conflicts hard to be solved by regulations or established customs.

@ Can administrators or thread management staff in other forums or websites be accredited by MF as organizer?

There are not separated factions in outdoors.  We come together thanks to the love for Nature and travel.  MF accredited organizer is a role for behaviors and dedication, but not for honor、rank and status.  The person who, by exerting your efforts, supports our principles without condition or purpose is warmly welcomed here.

@ Shall I accept panelty if I fail to attend the activity I have applied for?

Penalty originates from a kidding way to hold in a group of friends when MF is still in small size.  As far, MF still has not strict regulation for penalty yet and the penalty is not main source for MF Fund.  However as a custom established by usage, activities organizers can choose penalty as a compensation way to make members abide by the rules or disciplines.  It is different from going dutch in transportation fee. The former is a compelling compensation for the missing of your share in fees.  The later is free-will which you have accepted since you have been applying for taking part in activities.  You can still choose do not carry out penalty but your resolution will have bad effect on following activities、other members and those who has not been enrolled in the activity and will be recorded by organizer to lower your total virtue evaluation.  Pay-off for the penalty is the easiest and most direct way to offer your apology and save your credit.

@ Can MF help me to organize my company’s outdoor activities?

MF does not support members come here for help of company’s activity.  The routine or trail held in MF is usually not adapted to the company’s. For the sake of safety, please turn to travel agents or similar organizations for help.

@ Can I take my cute puppy to climb or hike with me in MF activities?

Leave your pet at home.  Pets are cute but not a part of our outdoors.  To join it at outdoors will cause some problems such as quarantine、 disturbance of wildlife and sometimes be regarded as the right breaking for those who dislike pets.  As for the manual 、transformed and managed commercial scenic spots, you may abide by its own corresponding rules, which is not belonged to our discussion range.

@What is the meaning for the blue numbers marked in Parentheses in many post's titles?

This is a mark to discard automatically by system those posts which comply with the principles of MF but not worthy for being reserved. The number states how many days your post will be kept. In general, the greeting post by new comers will be kept for 3 days.  The discussion for an unplanned activity will be kept for 7 days.  Post for simple questions will be kept from 3 to 5days. The post which is breaking MF principles or themes will be locked and kept for 2 days.@ How to define Organizer for Activity?
1. MF organizer is a group leader to guard and decide the itinerary or related details for enrolled attendees in outdoor activities.  What he or she does will not be paid or compensated either by finance or substance.
2.As an organizer, you shall be happy to devote your time and efforts to plan and organize an activity.  It is not an easy work.  To arrange the itinerary、pay heed to climates、ensure the appropriate gears of attendees、guarantee the safe return of these attendees,  all these efforts will sacrifice your feeling of trip’s pleasure because of the enhancement of responsibility.

Would like to introduce some articles from  oversea webs:

Hiking - There are few things in life that are not only good for you both physically and spiritually, but can also bring you great joy and pleasure. Hiking is one of them

What It Is All About-INTRODUCE HIKING

Our bodies were designed for motion and need to move in order to stay fit and healthy. Walking is one of the best exercises there is for your body. It doesn't stress your joints as much as running does, but still gets your body working hard enough for it to benefit from the exercise. Hiking is walking. So it is good for you, but it is more than just walking. Itis also communing with nature.

I don't know about you, but I find the infinite and ever changing variety found in nature to be one of the most beautiful things we have here on our planet. The clouds in the sky, the waves crashing on a seashore, the wind blowing in a meadow or amongst the tree tops, streams swirling and bounding toward the sea, and all of the other plants and animals that inhabit our earth along with us are all truly wondrous and beautiful things.

Now combine the one of the best exercises there is, walking, with some of the most spectacular beauty to be found on our planet, nature, and you have hiking, or walking in the wilderness.

You can go for a walk just about anywhere. You can walk around the block or the neighborhood. You can walk to work or to school. You can walk around the shopping mall. You can even go for a walk in the park. They are all good for you, but none of these walks really constitutes hiking. When you go for a walk in the wilderness, in a part of the world that has not been transformed by man, then your walking becomes hiking. When hiking, because your walking is in the wilderness, you have to depend and rely more on yourself , your skills and abilities. Hiking gives walking a different feel or flavor.

Hiking generally also means walking for longer distances than most of our other walking, but this is not absolutely true.  Many hikes are for only part of day. A very short hike could be less than a mile on a nature trail by a campground. On the other hand a hike can be a very long walk. Some people hike for days, weeks, or even months at a time. A few people have even hiked for several years at a time.

Another nice thing about hiking ?it is free. You've probably heard the saying that the best things in life are free. I think this certainly applies to hiking. There may be some fees at trailheads for parking your car, and a few places may charge a small fee for a trail permit in areas that are heavily used. But there are still plenty of places where you can go for hike with no more cost incurred than the transportation to get there and back home again.

If you think you would like to give hiking a try but don't know how to get started,  please keep reading the article on below

Learning What You Need to Know in Order to Enjoy Hiking

If you can walk, hiking is easy. Really! Hiking is simply going for a walk, but doing so the wilderness. Its not really that much different than taking a walk anywhere else except that the surfaces you are walking on may be more uneven than the paved or flat surfaces you usually find in a city.

In addition to walking you need to be prepared for whatever the weather conditions are when you go for a hike, and you need to be able to find your way back home again.

The following suggestions are intended to help you ease into hiking if it is a new experience for you. If you are unsure or uncomfortable with the idea of going off into the woods for a walk, they may help you to get started.

Probably the closest thing to hiking that you can do in the city is to go for a walk in the park. If this business of hiking is really new to you going for a walk in a park is probably a good way to get started. Find a park that has some unpaved walking paths or just some open areas where you can get a feel for walking on unpaved surfaces. I find walking on unpaved surfaces much more pleasant than walking on concrete or payment. The hard city surfaces give my feet blisters faster than walking on bare ground.

One of the best ways to get started is to start with short hikes first. That way if your muscles or your feet aren't used to hiking or if you find you are not properly dressed for the weather you won't suffer unnecessarily.

One of differences between hiking and walking around in town is that you need to become more aware of your circumstances and what you need in order to take care of your body. While you are hiking there generally won't be a car, bus, house, store, or any other shelter to duck into if you get too hot or too cold or too tired or too hungry. And depending on when and where you go there may not be anyone else around. If you miss judge something on a short hike, it won't take long before you can get back to warmth, shelter, food, water, and more familiar surroundings. If you want to do it the easy way, use short hikes to learn what you can expect before attempting to tackle longer hikes.

Learn about hiking by doing it at the time of year when the weather is the nicest. Remember you're going to be outside. Summer in most areas is usually the best time of year for hiking because the weather then is most pleasant, but if you live in an area such as the desert you may want to start hiking in the spring, fall, or even winter when temperatures are more moderate. Choosing friendly weather will mean one less thing you have to worry about while you are finding out what this hiking thing is all about. Later after you have gained some experience and want more variety or challenge you can go out when the seasons are less friendly.

Start out by hiking with others in a group. It is also a good idea at least at first to go with other people who have already been hiking and know what to expect and can help you out when you don't know what to do. If you don't have some hiking friends that are willing to take you along with them, you can probably find some more formally organized groups to go with. Check with local hiking clubs, municipal parks and recreation departments, outdoor supply stores to see if they have some organized hikes scheduled. If you have trouble locating any of these, go to your public library and ask the reference librarian for assistance.

Some people find they enjoy hiking so much with a group that they never get around to hiking by themselves. Others really enjoy the solitude of hiking alone. It gives them a chance to think about things, or the opportunity to not think and just experience. There is something to be said for both approaches, but I recommend hiking with a group first if you are inexperienced.

One of the most common mistakes made by the hiking novice is the wrong choice of footware. Choosing the right footware is very important. Hiking by definition is walking which means being on your feet. So you should choose footware that is designed to make your feet comfortable while walking not footware whose sole purpose is to look good and get attention. Some people prefer hiking boots, but you do not need boots to go hiking especially if you are just going hiking for a few hours or a day. A good pair of walking shoes is quite adequate in most areas. There are people who like to hike while wearing sandals. There are even people that hike barefoot. What you don't want to wear hiking are dress shoes that are designed with walking foot comfort as a last consideration. The footware needs to be comfortable and needs to have the kind of sole that won't have you slipping on any surfaces that aren't perfectly flat.

Another common mistake is to buy brand new footware and wear it for the first time on a hike. This is more of a problem with boots than it is with shoes. Give your feet a chance to get used to any new hiking footware by wearing it for short periods around your home or for short walks in the park. Generally the heavier the footwear the longer it will take for your feet to get used to the new shoes. If you wear something on your feet for a hike that don't already feel very comfortable, you may be sorry. Blisters are the most common result, and while not life threatening blisters certainly aren’t fun. They can in fact be quite painful.

The clothes you wear are also important for comfortable hiking. Wear only clothes that feel comfortable while you are walking. Generally this means loose fitting clothes. You don't want clothes that will bind with every step you take. At the other extreme you don't want your clothes so loose that they get in your way and trip you up or catch on things as you walk by. Your clothing should also be chosen to help your body maintain a comfortable temperature while hiking - not too hot and not too cold.

The best type of footware and clothes to wear while hiking will vary some based on locale and weather. Sandals for example probably aren't a good choice for winter hiking where there is a lot of snow. Really warm clothes aren't desirable for hot, sunny hiking weather, and clothes that aren't warm enough can be miserable in cool to really cold weather. That's an advantage to learning about hiking by going with a group. You can ask around and find out what's most appropriate for the area and time of year in which you will be doing your hiking.

Experience will be your best teacher if you're paying attention. To gain experience start out with some short, easy, group hikes. Ask questions when something doesn't feel right or you don't know what to do. The experience you gain will help you make sense out of what others have to say, and pretty soon you will be able to decide for yourself what feels most comfortable to you while you are out walking in the wilderness.

Once you have some experience under your belt, if you want to do more by expanding your hiking season, or going out for longer trips, or going it alone, or tackling more difficult terrain, check out the other information available here and elsewhere for ideas. Consider these ideas and techniques in light of your own experience. Then experiment. Try different techniques. Test different pieces of gear. Find out what works best for you. Hiking is a very personal experience. What works best for you, what brings you the most joy while hiking, won't be the same for everyone else. Don't worry about it. Get the most out your hiking that you can.

The rest of the information on this web site is all designed to help enhance your hiking adventures. Season it with experience and digest it at your own pace. Most importantly enjoy your hiking.
Good luck and happy trails to you!

回复: Introduce You Some Doc. (FAQ)
It's a really great job, and you've done,Moon. (Cheerful.....).

Maybe you are an excellent translating machine with great power in MF, he he

Here is my personal suggestion, for your information:
       1.  For the pro outdoor field, I think it is better to translate the "装备"  to  "gear" only, no need to use "equipment".

       2.  In MF, it's better to translate "登山鞋" to " hiking boots/shoes"

       3.  ........................................."虚拟社区"  to " Virtual Community"

It seems this system thread is unstable.  I have dropped offline for several times while entering here. sad

And how to set up a Hyperlink in my post?  I can do it in "Words" by the click of right button in mouse ,choose the function bar of "hyperlink" and then change the link as the name I like , but fail to do it here.  clown  For example:

I need put"FAQ-常见问题、习惯做法的解释和新人特别提醒" directly above "http://forum.doyouhike.net/ut/topic_show.cgi?id=94279&h=1&bpg=1&age=0[/url] " to save space.  How can I do it?  disapprove
