Regulations

[$#8226] ENTRY
  1.

The Tournament is open to all holders of an advanced pilot's license.

The maximum number of pilots in the Tournament is limited within 135.

Pilots may compete as a team or as an individual.

The maximum number of pilots constituting a team is 4, the minimum is 3.

Entries must be made on the official Entry Form. Some countries citizens need a VISA to enter Taiwan. Please check with your travel agent.

2. Entry Deadline :
All applications will be collected and compiled into a list for selection.
We hope to be able to offer all applicants a place, however, we cannot guarantee this.

Our competition is limited to 135 participants, 30 places being reserved for more experienced or ranked pilots. If you have an FAI /PWC ranking, please let us know in writing. The remaining places will be given on a first come, first served basis.

Our list of successful applicants will be published on Jun 15th.
Late applications will still be accepted after this date but only if there are places available.

3. Insurance :
Competitors are strongly advised to obtain their own personal accident coverage.

    
  [$#8226] GENERAL COMPETITION RULES
    1. REGISTRATION
On arrival the team leader and members shall report to the Registration Office to have their documents checked and to receive supplementary regulations and information.

The end of the official Registration period is considered to be the official start of the tournament.

The following are required:
Pilot qualifications
Rescue Parachute
Helmet
Valid Passport
Satisfactory evidence of glider airworthiness (at registration)
Declaration of exclusion of liability for the organizer (at registration)
GPS of each competitor for registration
Radio equipment 14520-14580 mhz
A passport type photograph and a short biographical note for pilot and team leader

2. The Registration office will be open :
Aug 1st (Mon) 2005 . 09:00 - 18:00

3. CONTEST NUMBERS
The numbers or letters supplied by the organizers shall be displayed on the underside of the center of the wing with their top towards the leading edge.

4. RESERVE DAYS
There will be 1 reserve day.

5. COMPLAINTS AND PROTESTS
A complaint may be made to the Tournament Committee, preferably by the team leader, in writing, to request a correction.

It should be made with the minimum delay and it will be dealt with expeditiously.

If the complaintant is not satisfied with the outcome, the team leader may make a protest in writing to the Tournament committee.

The time limit for protests is 2 hours after publication of the provisional task results or the results of the complaint, except that after the last contest task it is 1 hour.

The protest fee is NT$1000.

It will be returned if the protest is upheld.

6. TAKE-OFF METHODS

  [$#8226] RADIO TRANSCEIVERS
    Radios are allowed for communication between competitors, team leaders, drivers and the organisers. Competitors must supply their own equipment.

Only frequencies allocated by the organisers may be used. It is the team leader's responsibility to hear the organizer's emergency announcements through the emergency frequency.

The emergency frequency will be dedicated before starting the first task. The use of GPS systems during competition flights is mandatory.

    
  [$#8226] TOURNAMENT TASKS
    1. A competitor will be allowed 2 take-off attempts after which consideration should be shown to other competitors.
2. TASK PERIOD
All Task related information to be given at daily pilot's briefing.

    
  [$#8226] SCORING & FLIGHT VERIFICATION
    1. The Scoring program will be RACE with the GAP formula
2. Team Scoring
The team score calculation is the daily sum of the scores of the best 3 pilots of the pilots entered as a team, measured each day, and added daily to produce a total score for the competition.

3. 2 separate scorings will be published : 1 Team Scoring and 1 Individual scoring.
4. Scoring a stopped task
When a window is closed in the event of bad weather, if the number of contestants in flight exceeds 30%, those tasks will be scored.

    GPS flight verification will be used.

Flying in the East Rift Valley

The East Rift Valley is situated in the SE of Taiwan close to the coastal city of Taitung.

It is comprised of two separate mountain ranges, the Coastal and the Central, marking the meeting point of the Philippine and the Eurasian tectonic plates respectively.

The prevailing wind is southerly with velocities of between 10-30 km/h.

Thermal winds are strongest along the central range and are generally 3-5 m/s between 13h00-14h00.

There are some sections of High Voltage Distribution Lines (60,000-160,000 volts) along the route.

How to get there
[$nbsp][$nbsp][$nbsp]

There are two ways to get there
The first way is to fly to Taipei CKS International Airport, and then go by bus to Song Shan Domestic Airport to fly to Taitung Domestic Airport. The distance from Song Shan to Taitung is a 45 min flight.

A return flight from Songshan to Taitung is around US$120 and is available daily. Transportation from Taitung Domestic Airport will be made available by the organizers.

[$nbsp][$nbsp]The second way is to fly to Kaohsiung International Airport and then to go by train to the New Taitung Train Station.
[$nbsp][$nbsp][$nbsp][$nbsp]Competitors arriving between July 31th 06:00am and Aug 1st 18:00pm may contact our HOTLINE from an airport pay-phone at either of the international airports to be collected by an official bus and assisted with all further travel arrangements.

Those arriving earlier or later may also contact these HOTLINES for information, however, the organizers will be unable to provide any further services, including transport.
