Individual differences in performance of a puzzle task

You are invited to participate in a research study conducted by Zuo Yu ZENG under the supervision of Dr. Jeff Saunders from the Department of Psychology at the University of Hong Kong.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY

The study investigates how people learn to perform a task that involves problem-solving and working memory.

PROCEDURES

During a one hour session, you will be solving multiple Sudoku puzzles, and your performance will be measured and recorded.

POTENTIAL RISKS / DISCOMFORTS AND THEIR MINIMIZATION

Your performance will be evaluated on each trial, which might lead to some discomfort. Such discomfort, however, should be no greater than what we experience in everyday life. There is no potential risk.

COMPENSATION FOR PARTICIPATION

There is no compensation for this experiment.

POTENTIAL BENEFITS

There are no direct benefits. The results may help us understand how different people learn to perform a complex mental task.

CONFIDENTIALITY

The results will be kept confidential, and personally identifying information will not be stored with the data.

DATA RETENTION

Contact information will be deleted after data collection is completed, and no personal identifiers will be stored with the data.

PARTICIPATION AND WITHDRAWAL

Your participation is voluntary. This means you can choose to stop at any time without negative consequences.

QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS

As the purpose of this experiment is for thesis writing, all the data about participants will be kept for five years.
