Ocean kayaking is a sport in which age and gender are not barriers, and I cannot think of many physical activities that can be done equally well by men and women between the ages of eighteen and eighty all in the same group. Paddling a kayak is also a very personal thing. Once secure inside the cockpit and snug on the molded bucket seat, the occupant soon becomes aware that it is boat that is than sat in. Every mood and movement of the sea is transmitted through the hull of the kayak to the paddler's nervous system. In this way a union is built between paddler and the sea.

Even shortest journeys by kayak are true voyages of discovery. It may be along a familiar bit of tree-lined coast or in and out of the jetties and moorings of some seaport town or city. Wherever it may be, you will see the world, your companions, and yourself from a completely different angle; and if you are like me, it will be an experience that never becomes jaded. For those travel far from their homes, the same piece of water can be paddled over many times-the back- drop may remain the same, but the stage is always different.

Good leaders should be diplomatic, and all major problems should be discussed by the whole group.

No matter how democratic the discussions have been, inevitable there will be a time then a decision must be made with no time  for discussion or debate. As such a time the leader must fee able to make a decision and others must have sufficient trust to abide by it.
