[杰克逊]机场是全美唯一建在国家公园内的机场。在[GRAND TETON]公园内, [黄石公园]以南五十英哩。去[黄石公园]的另一种选择是飞到[盐湖城](SALT LAKE CITY),但要开六个多小时的车。[杰克逊]机场是一个很小的机场,只有一条跑道。机场内很拥挤。
飞到SALT LAKE CITY比较便宜，一般都是晚上飞到这里开始行程。
租车要提前订好，到时出机场去取车，第二天一大早就 可以出发。

租车信息：
机场旁边的fox，并不在机场里面。因为便宜，就定了它家的。有shuttle来回接送，还算方便。我们最后拿到辆Dodge Charger 计$140。

住宿信息：
American best inn @ salt lake city, $58/night

一大早出发，开车按GPS的指令向黄石南门奔去。
路过walmart supercenter，可以补充bottled water, 水果和西瓜。
午饭可以在麦当劳解决。

预计于下午两点左右到达Grand Tenton。

Grand Tenton 和 Yellow Stone 连票， 进门费$25/车。不管车里是一个人还是七个人，相对还是比较便宜的，而且管用七天，自由进出。据说以前一直都是$10/车，收了好多年，后来实在亏得厉害，97年才涨价。要是单人步行或者骑自行车的话现在也还是$10。或者你也可以花$50买一张美国国家公园通票，一年有效，所有国家公园通用。

在门口可以拿地图和newsletter，继续按GPS指令穿越Grand Tenton。

在Grand Tenton里沿着公路开。两边景色很美。主要是远处的雪山，和近些的草地, 还有湖。（不知道雪山过了7月还有没有雪？）如果时间充裕，还是值得停留一下，景色很好。

如果不作过多停留，预计下午四点左右到达黄石的south entrance，可以拿黄石的地图。
如果7月份去的话，9点多才天黑。不知道9月份去是几点天黑，反正还有比较长的时间可以在园里先玩一下。

下午可以参加主要是三个集中的Basin带，Upper Geyser Basin, Midway Geyser Basin和Lower Geyser Basin。

周围的酒家饭馆大都是十点关门。所以不要太晚，否则会吃不上晚饭。
可以夜宿Holiday Inn，离west entrance也就十分钟的车程，价格是一百来块。

早上从west entrance再次入园，游览黄石的上8字部分。
说来也有趣，黄石的正规公路修成一八字状，然后再东南西北延伸至四个门。

从Madison至Norris方向的游览。

这一路都是些小喷泉，小spring和一些小瀑布、小溪啥的。

比较特别的是，这一带的spring边上的bacteria比较多。能在高温及硫的情况下，生存也不容易。

还有，Norris有个至少1/2 mile的trail。它不像前面那些木条铺成的平坦的trail，有段碎石的小径。
Norris上面有个museum，有兴趣的可以参观一下。毕竟黄石是美国的第一个国家公园，开发啥的颇有历史。

从Norris向Mammoth

这一路感到地貌变化十分明显。真的是移步换景的感觉。前面还有些雪山为背景的大片草地，小河流水的景象。
这里cliff立马多了起来。有不少很酷的巨石就横在cliff上。

路上有个叫golden gate的地方，也有座叫golden gate bridge的桥，就是建筑在陡峭的悬崖上。当初修桥补路，很是费了一番周折。桥旁边悬崖侧面就是一帘瀑布，风景很别致。

Mammoth hot spring是个很值得一游的地方。
不同于前一日的三个geyser basin带，这里的hot spring形成了一些很漂亮的地质风情。
这里分两个terraces area，Upper 和 Lower。

Upper的可以开车绕场一周，speed limit很低，在车里慢慢欣赏场内的风光。

那些地貌，就仿佛人工雕琢的一般，有的如白玉般晶莹透亮，有的如佛像般栩栩如生。看照片有点像黄龙的的地貌。
Lower的是一些trail，需要步行，还有些台阶，稍稍会耗费些体力。

从Mammoth出来，向北North Entrance的叉路上开车出发。那里有Yellow Stone唯一开放的允许visitors泡温泉的地方。

回到MAMMOTH，继续8字的游览，向罗斯福塔方向出发。
这里一路上的野生动物，小山鸡、花栗鼠、小狼狐等等很多，据说这里是黄石熊瞎子出没最多的地方。

晚上考虑住在公园内，需预订。

3，在美国都挺晒的，估摸着和上高原也差不多吧，最好的办法的物理隔离。爱白的MM要注意，一般的防晒霜只防晒伤，不防晒黑的。

4.防蚊。准备长袖衣裤或相应的药物。

5.关于食物：公园附近的餐厅１０点关门，而如果夏天去的话９点才开始黑。如果玩得晚赶不上，就靠方便面打发了。但是，如果住在公园内的话，一般都没有热水，就不要带方便面了
我们这次去，有5个晚上上都是安排露营。所以食物主要也就是自己用炉子生火做饭了。

6.墨镜、帽子：都可以用来防晒。帽子下小雨的时候还可以防雨。开车的话一定要墨镜，否则长时间眼镜吃不消。

11.ipod及其耳机：有些租的车没CD，黄石及山区的高速都没有FM signal，就靠它了。长途飞机上也可以用。

12.加足汽油。美国不像中国，很多地方都是没有手机信号的，黄石公园就是其中之一。加足汽油，如果没有油，叫天不应，后果会很惨。

13。园内温度，我只查了9月的，注意是F不是C。

14.关于住宿：

關於住宿：所有人都會建議住在國家公園內的旅館。以我們的觀察，老忠實區的老忠實旅館 (Old Faithful Inn) 會是我們的首選，因為地理位置最適中，附近的景點也最多。黃石湖旅館 (Lake Yellowstone Hotel) 的位置還好，而且傍晚湖邊可能有很大的機會看到野生動物。Mammoth Hot Spring區很熱鬧，但是距離其他景點都太遠，和住在北入口外的Gardiner大概差不多。Tower-Roosevelt太偏遠，看起來缺乏吸引力。峽谷區 (Canyon) 也還好，但也有點偏遠。

沒訂到國家公園內旅館也不是世界末日。我們住在北入口旁的Gardiner，我很喜歡那個地方。我後來覺得住國家公園外最好的方法是每個晚上住不同的地方，像北入口，東北入口和西入口不遠處都有一些旅館，各住一晚也挺好，不比住黃石公園內浪費太多時間，而且有可能省點錢。

无论是风光也好，动物也好，highlight好像都是傍晚时分，如果住在园内不急着赶路，方便多了
定房的时候，尽量打电话，网站上面都是说定满的，但是实际上打电话过去问都有空，而且因为yellowstone cancel 没有penalty，很多人都是先订了再改主意的。

---这些资料来自网上，但是我实际打电话的结果看来并非如此。实际上预订以后就需要你的信用卡号，如果定下来的话马上就会CHARGE你的钱。另外，GRANT TEOTON的营地好象不能预订：（ 工作人员说是先到先得。这些信息和网上所述的不大一样，也许是季节不同的原因。

另外有朋友07年7月去过，住在公园西门外。2个房间带厨房，一晚上80-90块。相关资料可参考：

16.衣物
黄石的昼夜温差还是蛮大的，白天都挺热的，穿短衣短裤，晚上挺凉的，要至少穿hoodie。帽子不用说一定要带！

以前露营的装备都留在国内了，今天又买了许多装备：帐篷，睡袋，SLEEPING PAD，套锅，炉子，全部是在REI买的。

7/28 一些朋友建议，grant teton的风景值得花上两天去品味。考虑延长行程一天中。。。

关于租车保险的信息

关于信用卡租车的深入探讨

版上大家问租车保险的问题也很多了，今天我也好好研究了一下，发现有很多潜在的危
险原来我都没意识到，所以写这篇租车保险探讨，给大家提个醒。同时也希望大家纠正
错误，提供看法，我会在首篇内update.

一，租车人有自己的车保，同时用信用卡租车
几乎所有的信用卡都是secondary的（除了dinner club, business platinum visa等少
数几个是primary). 基本上就是说保险费先有你自己的保险公司付，如果保险公司不能
cover了, 信用卡公司才付。
比如，你自己的车保是$500 deductible，最高到5k
1) 车出了问题，费用<$500, 这时候自己的保险公司不会支付，这笔费用将有信用卡公
司支付。
2）费用>$500, <5k, say $4500. 这时保险公司付$4000, 信用卡公司付$500
3) >5k, 保险公司付$4500, 信用卡公司付$500+超过5k的部分

一般车保包括了liability, CDW (Collision Damage Waiver), LDW (Loss Damage
Waiver). 信用卡涵盖了CDW，LDW. 所以在这种情况下你是不需要再买租车公司任何的
保险的。

需要注意的一些问题：
1。租车除了事，尽快打电话给信用卡公司file claim, 看到网上有人说没有在48小时
内file, 结果被信用卡公司declare.
2. 信用卡一般不cover超过30天的rental, 而且请注意如果你租的是31天，那前面的30
天也被invalid. 不要想着我前30天信用卡cover,再买最后一天就可. wrong!
3. 大多数信用卡不cover豪华车，Van, 有的连SUV都不包括 --- 陷阱啊，大家还是好
好读读自己信用卡的terms.
4. 如果你在一些恶劣的路况开车，unpaved, for example. 信用卡公司是不cover损伤
的！所以大家还是别学广告你那样在野外撒野。

二，租车人自己没有保险，用信用卡租车。（大城市里没自己买车的朋友们一定注意下
面了）
所有的信用卡，不管是primary or secondary都不提供liability insurance!!!!
这就是说如果是由于你的错误撞了其他车/人/建筑，别人sue你了，信用卡是不会帮你
付的（他们只管你租的车，这种情况在上一部分里是由你自己的保险公司付。）那这时
你就麻烦了。
这种情况怎么解决呢？
1。如果你自己自认为够牛，不会有自己的错误导致车祸，那好，你仍然不用买租车公
司的保险，因为信用卡还是提供CDW, LDW.
2. 选择Personal liability coverages，例如 LIS (Liability Insurance
Supplement）。reject CDW, LDW though.
3. 如果你常租车，可考虑购买non-owner liability policy from保险公司，大概200-
300一年。
4. 如果你是AAA member, 同时在hertz租车的话，hertz提供基本的liability
insurance for free: （*see update 2)
Primary Personal Liability Protection
AAA members receive Primary Personal Liability Protection of 25/50/10 ($25,
000 per person, $50,000 per accident and $10,000 property damage) in most
states. This is protection for claims filed by a third party, i.e.,
passenger, passenger in another vehicle, etc (U.S. Only)

1. 关于liability的讨论
bbcc同学提出：自己没有车保险的话, 是不是有些租车公司是包 Liability 的?
我查了一下，租车公司确实会买liability, 但只是minimum by law. 我查了一两个州
，大概是10k-20k per accident. 另外hertz在CA, Avis在CA,TX连这个基本的
liability也不提供，其他公司的我没查，大家可以到各公司网站找具体条框。
Insurance Information Institute的建议: Rental companies are required by law
to provide the minimum level of liability insurance required by your state.
Generally, this does not offer enough protection in a serious accident. If
you have adequate liability coverage on your car or an umbrella policy on
your home/auto, you may consider forgoing this additional insurance. It
generally costs about $9 to $14 a day. If you don't own a car, and rent cars
often, consider purchasing a non-owner liability policy.

2. 关于hertz提供liability
nickbear同学问AAA/Hertz的网址在哪？我在AAA的网站找不到。
我也没能在AAA网站找到，前段时间还有，不知道是不是被terminate了。sorry. 大家

3. administration fee
jackwolfskin同学问，好像有的租车合同上会有loss of usage这一个项目的charge，
就是出事情后对租车公司运营造成的损失。我记得上次租车是看过，有的卡就明确不会
cover这种charge，比如Amex的blue。
这个似乎是叫administration fee(我也记不大清了），对，很多信用卡公司都不cover
这部分费用，大概100-200的样子，这时最好直接找租车公司的至少supervisor一级
argue，让他帮你免去，或减少这部分费用。

关于在美国租车保险问题的回答

Do I need separate rental car insurance?
Properly insuring a rental car can be confusing, frustrating and downright daunting. Unfortunately, many consumers do not even think about car rental insurance until they get to the counter, which can result in costly mistakes—either wasting money by purchasing unnecessary coverage or having dangerous gaps in coverage.

Before renting a car, the I.I.I. suggests that you make two phone calls—one to your insurance agent or company representative and another to the credit card company you will be using to pay for the rental car.

1. Insurance Company

Find out how much coverage you currently have on your own car. In most cases, whatever coverage and deductibles you have on your own car would apply when you rent a car, providing you are using the car for recreation and not for business.

If you have dropped either comprehensive or collision on your own car as a way to reduce costs, you will not be covered if your rental car is stolen or damaged in an accident.

Check to see whether your insurance company pays for administrative fees, loss of use or towing charges. Some companies may provide an insurance rider to cover some of these costs, which would make it less expensive than purchasing coverage through the rental car company. Keep in mind, however, that in most states diminished value is not covered by insurers.

2. Credit Card Company

Insurance benefits offered by credit card companies differ by both the company and/or the bank that issues the card, as well as by the level of credit card used. For instance, a platinum card may offer more insurance coverage than a gold card.

Credit cards usually cover only damage to or loss of the rented vehicle, not for other cars, personal belongings or the property of others. There may be no personal liability coverage for bodily injury or death claims. Some credit card companies will provide coverage for towing, but many may not provide for diminished value or administrative fees. Some credit card companies have changed their policies, too, so you may not have as much coverage as you thought.

To know exactly what type of insurance you have, call the toll-free number on the back of the card you will be using to rent the car. If you are depending on a credit card for insurance protection, ask the credit card company or bank to send you their coverage information in writing. In most cases, credit card benefits are secondary to either your personal insurance protection or the insurance offered by the rental car company.

If you have more than one credit card, consider calling each one to see which offers the best insurance protection.

At the Rental Car Counter

Since insurance is state regulated, the cost and coverage will vary from state to state. Consumers, however, can generally choose from the following coverages:

* Loss Damage Waiver (LDW)

Also referred to as a collision damage waiver outside the U.S., an LDW is not technically an insurance product. LDWs do, however, relieve or “waive” renters of financial responsibility if their rental car is damaged or stolen. In most cases, waivers also provide coverage for “loss of use,” in the event the rental car company charges the renter for the time a damaged car can not be used because it is being fixed. It may also cover towing and administrative fees.

Waivers, however, may become void if the accident was caused by speeding, driving on unpaved roads or driving while intoxicated. If you already have comprehensive and collision coverage on your own car, check with your personal auto insurer to make sure you are not duplicating coverage you already have. Should you decide it is necessary, this coverage generally costs between $9 and $19 a day.

* Liability Insurance

By law, rental companies must provide the state required amount of liability insurance. Generally, these amounts are low and do not provide much protection. If you have adequate amounts of liability protection on your own car, you may consider forgoing additional liability protection. If you want the supplemental insurance, it will cost between $7 and $14 a day.

An umbrella liability policy, however, may be more cost-effective. Umbrella liability insurance is so named because it acts like an umbrella, sitting on top of your auto and homeowners (or renters) liability policies to provide extra protection including accidents while driving your own car or one that you rent. These policies, usually sold in increments of a million dollars, cost as little as $200 to $300 annually for a million dollars worth of coverage and another $50 to $100 for each additional million.

Those who do not own their own car and are frequent car renters, can also consider purchasing a non-owner liability policy. This not only provides liability protection when you rent a car, but also when you borrow someone else’s car.

* Personal Accident Insurance

Personal Accident Insurance offers coverage to you and your passengers for medical and ambulance bills for injuries caused in a car crash. If you have adequate health insurance or are covered by personal injury protection under your own car insurance, you may not need this additional insurance. It usually costs about $1 to $5 a day.

* Personal Effects Coverage

Personal Effects Coverage provides insurance protection for the theft of items in your car. If you have a homeowners or renters insurance policy that includes off-premises theft coverage, you are generally covered for theft of your belongings away from home, minus the deductible. If you purchase this coverage through the rental car company, it generally costs between $1 and $4 a day.

If you frequently travel with expensive items such as jewelry, cameras, musical equipment or sports equipment, it may be more cost-effective to purchase a personal articles floater under your homeowners or renters insurance policy. With such a floater, your valuable items are protected at home as well as while traveling anywhere in the world and the coverage is broader.

Other Things to Consider

States have minimum age requirements for renting a car and most major rental car companies refuse to rent a car to someone who is under 21 and in some cases under 25. In addition, some rental car companies now investigate your driving record and/or credit history so check with the rental car company before picking up the car.

If you are planning to rent a car abroad, contact both your insurance agent and travel agent to find out what you need to do to be properly insured. Those driving a rental car from the U.S. into Mexico may find it progressively more difficult to rent a car as U.S. rental car companies are increasingly concerned about the rising crime rates in that country. The minimum required insurance coverage to drive in Mexico is civil liability insurance which covers you in case you cause injury or damage. Your American liability insurance is not valid in Mexico for bodily injury, though some American insurance policies will cover you for physical damage—check with your agent or insurance company representative. You can also buy Mexican car insurance in several American border towns; there are generally several storefronts selling Mexican car insurance near the border.

Note: If you're renting a car abroad, you may need an international drivers license.

8/23出发，8/31返回。一切顺利。
接下来再慢慢整理照片的游记。

趁现在记忆还热呼，先记个流水帐，以后再慢慢细化。

8/23 早起，四点半出发去机场。6：30航班起飞，9：30到达盐湖城。出了机场就是租车公司，取了预先网上订好的车。本来订了middle-size的车，现场没有这种车，免费升级到full-size。开起来很爽，就是有点费油了。

取了车，直奔WALMART采购接下来多天的食品；然后再去REI买了3个气罐，最后也没有用完。

然后沿高速直奔黄石公园，在西部平原上的高速很好，限速是75MILE(120.7KM)。一路上车不多，平均时速在90MILE(150KM)。走走停停，下午5点到达黄石西门。

在公园里走走停停，从西门到madison,向南转到old faithful，向东转到west thumb，再向南2MILE到达预订好的营地。晚上9：15到达预先订好的营地。扎营、做饭、晚上12：00入睡。

8/24 一天主要时间都在 old faithful，傍晚转到 madision 和norris。入夜再按原路返回营地。

8/25　YELLOWSTONE LAKE，bridge bay, fishing bridge,向东至东门。返回fishing bridge，然后向北经canon village到达tower-roosevelt。入住事先订好的cabin（小木屋），价格很贵，没想到晚上被冻醒。性价比远不如露营。当天是黄石公园的８月圣诞节，在餐馆大餐一顿。

8/26 向东出北门，开车走beartooth，号称美国最美的公路，风景的确名不虚传。一路下车走了几个TRAIL，景色很好。路过LAMAR草原，野牛无数。还见到狼和棕熊。

原路返回到TOWER，再向西到MAMMOTH，向南到NORRIS，再向东折到CANYON VILLAGE。扎营。这里晚上很冷，早上起来帐篷上全是冰。

8/27　一天在CANYON，两个瀑布、大峡谷，还走了几个TRAIL.晚上扎营。

8/28 早起向南出黄石公园，直奔大提顿公园北门。１０：３０到达COLTER BAY，登记营地。再向南过ROCKEFELLER，转向MORAN，一路向南走US-191直到MOOSE。一路都看到旁边的雪山。下午沿着山边HIKE去两个高山湖TARGART LAKE ,BRADLEY LAKE。走到湖边，非常疲惫。在高山冰湖中洗了一下脚，比较爽。

傍晚一路向北沿着雪山和湖泊回营地，中间去SIGNAL MT.

COLTER BAY这里营地很暖和，一晚上竟然太热没睡好。

8/29　早起，在JACKSON LAKE湖边拍照，开车到JENNY LAKE边，徒步STING LAKE和LEIGH LAKE，非常美。坐船穿过JENNY LAKE，徒步著名的CASCADE CANYON。一路上的松鼠完全不怕人，只要你坐下休息，它就会过来到你身边。几天下来，对雪山和湖泊看到审美疲劳。

8/30　早起，一路再到各个湖边拍照。中午从南门出公园，开车返回盐湖城。入住事先订好的喜来登酒店。

8/31　参观TEMPLE SQUARE，这里是摩门教的总坛。看到我们是中国人，他们安排一个来自台湾的漂亮MM专门给讲解，听说世界各地的教中美女来到总部进行一年半的义工。

傍晚开车去机场、还车。登机回家，中间飞机有点小故障，耽误一小时。
