If you are in Tasmania at the moment and if your lucky enough, you would have a good chance to see Southern Right whales and humpback whales. They are now migrating to Antarctica feeding.
I saw two southern right whales at Taroona, out of the deck of office tea room. My flatmate saw them and a humpback whale at Bruny Island; another friend saw them when he was doing a boat trip close to the Tasman peninsula. These days they are around Derwent River quite often.

"Tasmania's Environment Department has confirmed several Killer Whales were seen in Hobart's Dewent River this afternoon.
It is understood the pod included two female Killer Whales, two males and several juveniles.
A marine biologist with DPIWE, Rachel Alderman, says they were most likely in the Derwent looking for food.
Ms Alderman says the first call to the Whale hotline reported sighting the whales off Kingston Beach.
"Soon after that I got another call and they were off Hensby's Beach and then they were off Taroona High so heading up north," she said.
"We jumped in the car and went down and had a look and found them heading up sort of past Taroona and then they came up as far as Sandy Bay."
Rebecca Hubbard from Environment Tasmania says she received a call from a friend who also saw the pod at Sandy Bay.
"He had just seen them down at Nutgrove Beach," she said."
