最后和大家分享一下相片。

April,2010, I spent 21days traveling in Nepal by myself, almost 10days in the cities for shopping, sightseeing, photographing, experiencing Nepal’s new year celebration, demonstration, participating Everest TMC meeting and another 10days trekking in the mountains.

During the 10 days in the cities, I’ve been to Thamel area, Kathmandu, the capital of the nation, and Patan,
Bhaktapur cities which are near to the capital, I’ve been to Nargarkot for the snow mountains’ great view and luckily enjoyed the fantastic new year celebration in Bhaktapur. And definitely, it was a smart decision to attend other country’s TMC meeting. It was a wonderful memory and beneficial experience. I m sure I will try to attend other TM clubs meetings whenever and wherever I go. Obviously, it’s one of the reasons why we joined this international club.

For the other 10 days in the mountains, it was a great experience not only for the views, but also a brilliant chance to make more international friends, to share and communicate.
I learned and experienced much more than I expected from this trip, from the persons I met on the way. Here is my story in Nepal, hope what I experienced can open a window for you to see another aspect of the world.

1. Thamel area is located in the downtown of Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. It is a commercial and tourists-gather area. You can find thousands of hostels, star-hotels with different prices and all kinds of restaurants of Chinese, Nepalese, Italian, Japanese, Mexican food. The accommodation is not expensive at all compared with the price in cities in china. Usually the price is between 30 to 50 yuan for a standard single room with 24hours hot shower, TV and bathroom. But they have electricity problem of only 12 hours in a day with electricity. Some of the hotels, they have private generators. Tourists will not get used to this kind of situation but sooner or later, you will get adapt to the life without electrical products and realize that life without electricity is more peaceful.

2. Everest TMC. Once I ve decided to go to Nepal, I looked for TMC in Nepal and got contact with Everest TMC’s president. As what my Chinese friend, a 40 year old mother with no English education commented on this meeting “how luck I am to join this meeting and how grateful for you to take me here. Even though I didn’t understand what you talked about in the meeting, I still learned a lot from you. The atmosphere is friendly and positive; the participants are sincere and well-educated. I ve never expected a meeting can be like this and thanks a gain to enlarge my horizons. It’s like I m here not only for myself but also for my 11 year old son. I wish he can join this club one day in the future.” Yes, I m not exaggerating how successful that meeting is. But it is ture that 5 or 6 of the guests decided to join there club that same evening.

3.Dubar Squares. There are three famous Dubar squares in Nepal and are located in Thamel, Patan and Bakthpur. Dubar means palace. The beautiful architectures are like olders, always be calm and open to the people whoever need him. Dubar squares are not only live evidences of the history, but also take the responsibility to show the people how to be a generous and happy person.

4. holy persons(sadhu). You can see holy persons in the streets. Nepalese call them sadhu. They are barefoot, one hand with a walking stick, the other hand with a bowl for money. The traditional sadhus have strong religion believe and they give locals “tikka”(the red spot on people’s forehead). Tikka is made of yogurt, rice and red power and it means the protection from the god. At present, you can see women with tikkas on the forehead as a fashion. You can even buy the plastic tikkas from the shops. As what I ve seen, many sadhus showed up in the tourist areas. They dress up with colorful clothes and wear make up which means god’s presence. Different make up is in the name of different god. They refuse to take pictures if you are not going to pay for him. It is their way not only to earn respect but also to earn a lot of money.

5. day 2: bouddhanath stupa—wedding—pashupatinath
Budda eye temple is not far from Thamel. It is one of the biggest Buda temple in the world. so it is easy to understand it is also the religion center for the Tibetan. As we know, Nepal is famous for its high mountains. The highest mountain Everest is shared by our country and Nepal. So the Alpinists will come here to pray for a safe trip before they start up.

6. Religion and believe. I’m not going to give my specific comments on religion. The only thing which is an amazing fact is religion is a great power to influence the people, their lives and the nation.

7.traditional wedding ceremony. I’m lucky to get invitation when I met a beautiful woman and crazily took pictures of her. The wedding ceremony starts in the morning and end up in the evening. Relatives and friends from both sides gather together. Some invite a traditional band to play wedding music. Firstly it took time for the bride to make up and dress up. Then she showed up to be with the groom and the ceremony began. It last for at least several hours. Of course, we tasted the traditional Nepalese food there.

8. there are three groups of people I care a lot in the trip. They are elders, youngsters and artists. The reasons: they are helpless. Not much attention and care from the others. They are too old or too young to take good care of themselves. For the youngsters, they don’t have enough education which is sad to see that but can not do much to change that. For the artists, they are enthusiastic for art. They are good dancers, singers, musical instrument players. But they receive little respect from the others. Coz the whole nation is still poor. People need to pay most their attention to their living first. Art is a luxury to them.

9. pashupatinath(buring dead body temple)
Reconsider the meaning of life: it is good to have families. show your love to your families, to the elders, youngsters and whoever need love.

10.panch deval( five towers temple)—welfare institution
Reconsider what you really need and want: we are lucky to have some much—a healthy body, a family, a lover, a stable country. Remember desire is a sin.

11.new year celebration in Bakthpur.
It’s crazy! Thousands of people gathered in the square. And hundreds of them participated in the tug-of-war competition. It is traditional and boisterous! I just wish Chinese can also have this kind of traditional celebration.

12. kids
Kids I met and talked to are cute, mature and warm-hearted, intelligent. Education is important for a kid, for a family and for a nation.

13.nagarkot
Reconsider the way you look at the world and take time to talk to yourself: if the weather is good enough with a clear sky, people can see more than 8 mountains which are higher than 8000 altitude. We are not that lucky, but I don’t complain because it’s nobody’s fault. Just enjoy whatever god offers you, sometimes you are the god. Coz its you who decided to choose to see what you want to see. Though I cant see the snow mountains, I still enjoy the villas, the flowers and the beautiful sunset there. Discover beauty with your heart.

14. impressions the cities gave me:
Nepalese: simple, happy with a peaceful mind. They like smiles, polite and patient. Never judge people by your experience, your never-change idea about things.
Wood carvings: exquisite, elaborate and sophisticated
Traditional Nepal women’s clothes: lisa and kuta.
Transportation problem:
Drinking water problem:
Business men in Nepal: why maoist are not welcome in Nepal now?

15. pokhara:
As the second biggest city in Nepal, it attracts hundreds of thousands tourist to visit. It enjoys the fames as a trekking heaven and the relaxing life also give tourists a very good impression. What’s more, you can also take an adventure to try paragliding, rafting or forest hunting. Pokhara is the start and also the end of many trekking routes. The trekking route and regulation is mature enough for tourists to have a safe trek. You can also just stay in the city to relax. You can have a wonderful time boating on the phewa tal lake which is the second biggest lake in the country. You can also rent a bike to explore the city. Or you can climb up to the world peace pagoda and view the whole city under your feet.

16.trekking in the mountains: (impressions)
Food in the mountains: much more expensive coz all of them are carried by the porters, the menu is set which means every lodge has the same food, same style, same way of cooking… cook soup by myself

17.dogs in Nepal or Nepalese dogs:

18.kids in the mountains:

19.parents: love

20.women in Neal: what they do, the way they dress

21. friends I made on the way: the most important thing to make friends is to communicate. It s not where you are from, what you do and how rich you are matters, what really matters is who you are. Thanks all the people I met on the way, for the help you gave me, for the smiles you showed on the faces, for the different ways to deal with stuffs.

22. demostration: politics not stable, we are lucky

23. The day I left: mountains that suddenly came into my eyes, no wonder mountains in Nepal attract so many tourists and I understand more why the alpinists have such strong wills to conquer the mountains. I hope I can take my dreams or goals just as these charming mountains. One day I will also conquer all difficulties and lures I encounter on the way and reach the peak of my mountain with a peaceful but joyful mind.
