As the saying goes, you climb up from where you fall down.
On 6th this month, I joined Flying Tiger’s stronge hiker team to challenge Ke Mao line, and unexpectedly was terminated on ridge of Baishan Ridge and ended the hike. I am really not happy for that.
It’s good that Flying Tiger was organizing a second hike of Kemao Line on 13th again. By chance I had some family afairs at home and could not follow on time. It’s quite a pity.
So I went by bus myself, and started the hike from Baishan Ridge behind Helong Reserviour.
I arrived Niukutan before noon time to start hiking Baishan Ridge, thinking Flying Tiger’s team would catch me up after having lunch at Helong Reservior. It’s out of my expectation that they got through there about 11AM and got up Baishan Ridge before me.
So I hiked alone slowly, enjoying sightseeing and getting familiar with the lane going by, thinking Maofeng is just ahead by the right side.
After climbing over a few peaks and after arriving one peak, I felt the ridge is turing to the left obviously, thus I rushed back and checked. Just at the top side of the peak there is a Landmark stone for Guozhai, and backward a few meters more, there is a right turning ridge. According to the right turn principal, I choosed that ridge. Later on I saw the ribbon marks of Flying Brother and that proves that I was right.
After a long walk, I saw a wall blocking the whole ridge. I felt happy and thought I was arriving Maofeng Park. Last time I was told that after Baishan Ridge we had to get down to a pass and then climb up again in the Maofeng side. At that time I tended to believe that information is wrong. After winding through by the narrow lane beside, I could only find that it’s a single telecom building there. Baishan Ridge still goes ahead after that.
The last stop of Baishan Ridge is a prety pavilion. Ridicularsly there is not a single word there. I believed again that it’s the Sun Viewing Pavilion Flying Tiger Team arrived on the 6th.
After this Pavilion, there are two cement roads to go down, one on the left and one on the right. The one on the right is very steep. I choosed the right side one to go and later it was proved to be right. After arriving the waist, the cement road turned to the left and should merge with the left one. Direct down wards, it is muddy hiking way, a little bit like Stair Ridge. I saw it’s safe there, thus I just got down from there.
It is a difficult time for me when I arrived the bottom of that valley. My sense was telling me that the other side is Maofeng Mount, but there is no road of any kind there. And I am not sure the first peak there is the talling peak. It’s been 4PM then, I had no time and energy to cross over one or two peaks if the tallest peak is behind them. To the left it’s a narrow hiking way, and it’s quite flat to the right with motor road passing ahead, and some chatting voice ahead too.
So I turned right and reached a farm house where a few ladies chatting there. I told them I was looking the way for the tallest peak and then reach Suifeng Village. They told me it’s about 3 hours to reach Suifeng Village by the cement way there, and there is no way for the tallest peak there. If I want to go to the tallest peak, I need to return and get over the pass there and then reach the cement way on the other side, and then turn right to reach Yanghuoliao.
So I returned and got over that pass and reached the cement road and turned right for Yanghuoliao. On the way, I saw two or three narrow roads for going up. I dared not to go by those narrow road. There is a cenment step way for going up too, again with not a single directing word. Later on I was told that it’s called Devil’s Step Way and Flying Tiger’s team got up from there that day.
When arriving Yanghuoliao, I got to know that it’s an entrance for peak climbing. There’s a car park there, and a few food and beverage selling stands too. There I ate my first bowl of Soft Bean Curd. I was happy as from the shop runner I got to know that from the step way I could get the to the tallest peak and reach Suifeng Village on the otherside for less than 2 hours. Checking the time then, I felt I had no problem to get to the top of the tallest peak.
Walking upwards, I reached the first branch, with one side for Exercise Lane and other side for Leasure Pavilion and Double Green Pavillion. I choosed the way for the two pavillions. Then later on I reached another branch where I choosed Double Green Pavilion but not Leisure Pavillion. I reached Double Green Pavilion, stepped up Pavilion, just to realized that there are mountains arround there, and they are all almost at the same height. I even could not tell which one is the main peak. On the otherside of Double Green Peak, there is step way to get down. I heard voice coming from beneath, so I rushed down.
It is a car park and a few Selling Stands there too. I ate my second bowl for Soft Bean Curd just for getting to know arround. The lady did not know there the tallest peak is, but told me it could be near the Ancient Temple, and I needed to go to the Ancient Temple for the bus to get back into city center too. So I rushed towards the Ancient Temple.
I passed a village on the way, some ladies having happy chat there. When asked, they told me it’s Gaowu Village there and they did not know which peak is the tallest one too. They thought it’s almost the same height for a few peaks. I rushed on to the Ancient Temple.
After a long walk, I reached the Entrance of the Ancient Temple at last. People there were not asking me to buy ticket but told me that road maintainence is on the way and I could only board bus 758 to city center. I pretened to be wondering arround for the bus to go
Then I ate my third bowl of Soft Bean Curd, ignoring the bus leaving. After chatting the Soft Bean Curd lady, after careful checking the Tour Guide there and careful looking arround, I realized that the Mood Hugging Peak, the Peak Squire are at the far end after the entrance.
By that time two youngmen just came down and also studied the tour guide map there. They just returned from the Ancient Temple/Sky Lake/Politics Consulat Stone on the middle way. I asked them how long for them to walk to the Sky Lake and they told me it toke them more than half an hour. It’s only half way there to the top of Moon Hugging Peak.
It needs about 30 to 40 minutes to get to Suifeng Village from the top of the peak. And the last bus service for city center from Suifeng Village is 7PM.
It was just hafl past 5PM then, all in a rush, and if all went on well, it could be just in time to catch the last bus service for city center.
I really wanted to rush up, but dared not to. What a pity. For several times I had the impulse to rush up, but finally gave up. On the last minutes, I board the bus 758 for Longgui Metro Station. Once again, I missed the chance to conquer Maofeng Peak.
