Generally, 3 or more weeks seems normal to cover the 318 by mountain bike. You'd better to spend more time to recover the body and appreciate the beaituful landscape. And the cost there is not so expensive as that of Shenzhen. I guess you can easily afford that, haha~~
In my view, the most important things for you to complete the trip are good mood and enough alternatives for sorts of situation.
Additionally, I'd like to give you some words:
1. Keep respects for people. It's just religion, not civilization, is popular there, even if money is getting more and more attractive. Mostly they have not the same value of life as yours;
2.Take enough bike accesories with you since some parts of road are bad and repaired all the time;
3.Never struggle with the nature and weather. Stop before the dark.

Sometimes risk gets close to you potentally.
Last April, I met a biker of MF while our group climbed up to a top pass of mountain(maybe Dongda Mountain, the highest pass on the whole 318 road). He was far away from the companions and his water almost run out when we gave him some liters.
So, better preparation will make the trip easier.
